The clock is turned back in Ballina for Heritage Day.

It is estimated that thirty five thousand people will visit Ballina for the third annual Heritage Day which is one of the events in the Salmon Festival.

With local people dressed in period costume, the streets of Ballina were thronged with visitors. Traditional music and crafts are on show, tinsmith Tom Ward, demonstrates his skills. A replica turf and stone kiln shows how lime was produced. This material had many uses John Ferguson explains,

Whitewashing, put out on land, used to disinfect stables with it in the old days, used it before we had cement.
