Treating a variety of illnesses by massaging the feet.
Practitioners of reflexology do not claim it is a super cure for all ailments but that different parts of the feet relate to different parts of the body. It is claimed that therapy can improve circulation and help to restore the balance of the body.
Reflexology is a science of the feet.
Reflexology has its roots in the Ancient East and it is said that Egyptians practiced it as far back as 2,500 BC.
It could still be called a minority form of fringe medicine.
The theory behind reflexology is that the soles of the feet act as a mirror of the body and massaging particular areas of the feet can help to relieve pain in the corresponding organs.
Basil Crofts-Greene discovered reflexology through his studies of accupuncture and has set up a practice at his home in Strancally Castle County Waterford.
He assists nature to heal through finger compression massage of the reflexes of the feet.
Teresa Walsh has been attending his practice for treatment over the past four months. Suffering from chronic bronchitis, emphysema and circulation problems before the reflexology treatment began, Teresa Walsh says she could hardly walk. Now, she can walk quite well, can drive her car and life is looking much brighter. She was referred to a reflexologist by a doctor and a consultant which lends credibility to the practice. Since starting reflexology, Teresa's doctor has discontinued her prescription for breathing, bronchitis and circulation tablets.
