A rousing reception for All Ireland Hurling Champions Kilkenny on their return home with the Liam McCarthy cup.

Kilkenny won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, beating Cork 3-24 to 5-11 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin on 3 September.

The game between Cork and Kilkenny was was the first All Ireland Hurling Final to be broadcast by RTÉ in colour. Cork had previously defeated Kilkenny in 1966, while Kilkenny had last won the title in 1969.

On the return home to Kilkenny, thousands turned out as the team were paraded on the back of a lorry. The crowd cheers as the Liam McCarthy cup is raised for all to see. Mayor Alderman Kieran Crotty can be seen addressing the crowd and congratulating the team on their win.

In Cork, the runners-up were also welcomed home to a rapturous crowd with Ray Cummins hoping to do better next year.
