Excitement as the latest book in the Harry Potter series goes on sale.

'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' went on sale this morning with thousands of fans queuing to get their hands on the book.

People queued for hours outside Eason’s bookshop on O’Connell Street in Dublin to get their copy of JK Rowling’s latest offering, the sixth book in the Harry Potter series.

The wait finally ended at midnight for some of Harry Potter’s most committed fans.

The latest book reveals the identity of the Half Blood Prince.

The excitement over the publication was evident throughout the country. Belvedere House in Mullingar was transformed into a mock Hogwarts, as fans gathered for a witching hour event. Scenes like these were repeated around the world as Potter fans from New York to Beijing joined the Hogwarts hype.

Author JK Rowling read extracts from the book to seventy young fans at Edinburgh Castle.

The bookshops were busy with over five thousand books sold in Ireland last night and predictions that millions will be sold internationally over the coming days.
