A new product from New PMPA offers cheaper car insurance to women drivers.

Minister of State Máire Geoghan-Quinn launches an insurance scheme, which offers cheaper car premiums to women.

At present, there is no information available on Irish female driving records, but research in Britain shows that women drivers have a lower insurance claims record than men. Does this mean that male drivers will be forced to pay more? Not necessarily, says John Doherty from New PMPA,

Because the experience of women drivers is better, the number of claims will be somewhat less.

A 30-year-old woman driver who earns a maximum no claims bonus and restricts driving to herself can get a discount of 10 per cent, and in some cases 15 per cent. With a small car, this will give her third-party fire and theft cover for £208 if she lives in Dublin. If she lives outside Dublin, it will cost her £156.

Minister Máire Geoghan-Quinn is enthusiastic about the scheme,

I think that PMPA have targeted something that a lot of us as women drivers have known for a long time, that is that we’re a lot more careful, we’re a lot better, we’re a lot safer, and finally the insurance industry is beginning to wake up to that fact.
