The Galway Oyster Festival takes place every year the last weekend in September.
The Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival has a place in Europe's top 10 festival league. Visitors to Galway have travelled from Australia and Canada as the city revelled in the tourist bonanza. Mayor Michéal Ó hUiginn put it,
It's got style, it's got class. There are huge crowds here. It must be worth about £3 million to the city and it just gets Galway onto the world map once again.
The highlight of the festival is the World Oyster Opening Championships. This year the winner Vincent Graham is one of Galway's own.
