Analogue terrestrial television in Ireland will turned off in 7 days. So RTÉ Archives are taking a look back at some previous major technical changes for Irish television. Many of which we now take for granted.
The first demonstration of high definition television (HDTV) in Europe took place in Killarney in 1982. The news report on the event shown here says that experts are claiming that HDTV is the television of the future. Viewers will have to wait to see the sharper pictures because it is just not possible on current television sets!
