Irish fintech start-up Rubicoin has secured €1.2m in funding that will help the investment app developer expand into new markets.

The firm has designed a suite of apps aimed at helping anyone to become an informed investor.

The funding is coming from existing and new private investors, and brings to €3m the total amount raised to date by Rubicoin.

The company, which was founded in 2013 and was based in NovaUCD, has also announced its ‘Invest by Rubicoin’ app is now available worldwide – having previously only been downloadable in the US.

Its apps have seen more than 150,000 downloads in the past 12 months.

Rubicoin says its model is to “demystify the stock market, and create a fully accessible experience for would-be investors through a completely mobile-led offering”.

Company Co-founder John Tyrell said the additional investment “will assist our successful expansion into new markets, which is a very exciting prospect for us”.

In the last year Rubicoin has more than doubled its workforce from six to 13 and has moved to new offices on Merrion Row in Dublin.
