Maireád Redmond
Chocolatier and Pastry Chef Maireád Redmond lives at home in New Ross, Co. Wexford with her parents Noel and Mary. In last night's episode Maireád explained that she has always struggled with her weight.
“I’d say half my wardrobe is clothes that I haven’t worn with labels still on. Things that I said ‘I’ll wear that now when I get down to that size, that’ll fit me in six weeks or that’ll fit me by Christmas or it’ll fit me by Easter.’”
During Maireád’s weigh-in Dr Ciara Kelly warned that Maireád’s blood tests were worrying. She said:
“Part of the journey with Operation Transformation is about health as much as about weight loss and I’ve been looking at your bloods and what alarms me in your bloods is that your inflammatory markers and your uric acid levels are high so you’re at risk of arthritis and you’re at risk of gout and that’s crazy for a 22 year old.”
Starting Weight: 16st 4.5 lbs / 104.4 kg

Chris McElligott
Sixteen years ago, Chris McElligott's right leg was severed below the knee in a road traffic accident. He was on his way back home to play a football match when the van he was driving was jackknifed by a truck. Six months later he was fitted for a prosthetic leg. Chris’ weight makes his everyday mobility more of a struggle, putting undue pressure on his prosthetic limb.
However, Chris has decided he needs to stop using his prosthetic leg as an excuse for his weight.
“It’s nearly 17 years since I lost my leg. I’ve used that excuse for so many years now – being an amputee. This is a time when I have no excuses.”
On last night's episode of Operation Transformation Chris describes the moment he lost his leg in a car accident.
