Bressie explores link between fitness and mental health

The Voice of Ireland presenter will be training four ordinary people to compete in a gruelling half-Ironman challenge. In the process, he will be exploring the connection between positive physical and mental health which has been suggested by medical research in the past.

“We don’t know if there’s a link...We just want to explore it,” Bressie told RTÉ LifeStyle. “For mental health, there are no clean-cut answers for anything.”

Bressie expressed disappointment over the way mental health is generally presented on TV,  saying:

“I really wanted to put mental health on prime time television because it’s often discussed in a kind of muted way, not in a very inspiring, empowering way.”

He said that the documentary was a very tough and ambitious project to carry out, but the final product is honest, emotional and hopefully inspiring.

The former Leinster player is big into fitness, and his "ridiculous" exercise regime involves training twice a day, every day.

“It’s a medication for me, I love it,” he said.
