Hewlett-Packard has agreed to buy security software firm ArcSight for $1.5 billion, the second major acquisition by the US computer giant in the past few weeks.
California-based HP said it was offering $43.50 per share for ArcSight, a maker of software designed to help lessen cyber risks for businesses and government agencies.
HP said the acquisition 'will provide customers the ability to proactively monitor real-time events, assess risks and respond quickly to threats.'
'ArcSight's superior technology is highly complementary to HP's existing security portfolio of hardware, software and services,' HP said in a statement.
HP, the world's largest computer maker, said it expected the deal to close by the end of the calendar year.
Earlier this month, HP emerged the winner in a bidding war with another US computer titan, Dell, for data storage company 3PAR. HP came out on top after raising its offer for 3PAR to $33 per share or $2.35 billion.
