Animal health company Elanco is to buy a manufacturing plant in Sligo formerly owned by pharmaceutical giant Wyeth as part of a deal with Pfizer.
Elanco, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly, is to buy the European rights to a number of animal health products in a deal which also covers the Fort Dodge facility in Sligo. Around 80 workers at the Sligo facility will transfer to Elanco. The deal is subject to competition approval.
The plant transferred to Pfizer after it bought Wyeth for $68 billion last year. That deal made Pfizer Ireland's biggest foreign direct investment employer, with more than 5,000 employees.
'Today's announcement is to be greatly welcomed as it secures the continuing operation of the site,' said Fort Dodge plant manager Pat Glynn.
