Social networking company Facebook is to buy the content-sharing service Friendfeed in a move which analysts see as a challenge to internet giants Google and Twitter.
Friendfeed markets itself as a service which makes it easy to share information in real time.
Facebook has already made an unsuccessful attempt to buy micro-blogging service Twitter, which now boasts 45 million users worldwide.
Facebook says it has 250 million users. Details of the latest technology deal were revealed in an internet blog.
