Industrial production improved by 3.8% in April when compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office.
There was a major increase in the production of chemical products and man-made fibres, which jumped almost 36%.
That trend was reversed in radio, television and communications production, which fell by almost 24%
The high-technology and chemical sectors increased by 11.3%, while more ‘traditional’ areas declined by 15%.
The seasonally adjusted turnover for manufacturing rose 1.7% in the three-month period from February to April from the previous three months.
Turnover for the month of April was close to 6% up on the same month in 2008.
