A new online game, aimed at teaching students business skills, has been launched. The initiative is supported by the County and City Enterprise Boards and by Microsoft.
The Small Business Game, which involves students running a virtual sports shop, teaches them key skills such as marketing, finance and stock management. It gives them the opportunity to develop enterprise skills in a virtual world that they are very familiar with.
The 'game' is also closely linked to the Junior Cert curriculum, which means that teachers can utilise it to give students the opportunity to examine business concepts in a more realistic way.
'This is a wonderful demonstration of how technology can be adapted to meet the needs of the curriculum', Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe said
To play the game, schools needs to register at www.businessgame.ie. For Irish secondary school students only, it is designed for ages 13 - 18.
