Profits decline at ie domain registry

The ie domain registry has issued its annual report for 2007. It says that its pre-tax profits dipped more than €200,000 to €607,000 due to higher administration expenses. Last year the registry more than doubled its staff pension contribution to more than €50,000 for its 12 staff.

The registry is the not-for-profit organisation which administers the rules for registering an ie internet domain address and seeks to resolve disputes over issues like cyper squatting.

It says that .ie registrations increased by almost 20,600 or 29% in 2007 to more than 91,000.  in the first six months of this year, registrations grew a further 29% with the royal-hospital-kilmainham.ie becoming the 100,000th ie domain name registered in May.
