Revamped Smart Telecom has launched a new Christmas package, which offers free 12 month broadband to residential customers.
Smart was saved from closure last year by Irish multimillionaire entrepreneur Brendan Murtagh and it received €90m in refinancing in June. The board of the troubled telecoms group last year agreed to sell off all of its businesses and assets for €1 following Eircom's cutting off of Smart's fixed-line customers.
The company said that today's offer is the first in a series of initiatives aimed at re-establishing Smart in the residential market. It had managed to retain 16,000 broadband customers since its troubles erupted last year.
The new package offers 12 months free 3MB uncontended broadband as part of a deal including voice services from €10 a month - excluding line rental. New customers can avail of these bundled offers from today until December 31. New and existing customers can also avail of the offer on upgraded packages up to 7MB.
Smart Telecom recently announced it was making a €2.5m investment in an interactive internet protocol television platform with French provider Thomson. It says this will enable it to deliver the first integrated triple-play voice, video and data service.
'Since our refinancing announcement in June, we have been working tirelessly to ensure our existing customer base is provided with best in class products and services,' commented Pio Murtagh, Smart's Chief Operating Officer.
'We are now restructured and ready to redevelop the residential market and are in a strong position to re-establish Smart Telecom as the telecom provider of choice,' he added.
