The IE Domain Registry has announced the relaxation of registering personal '.ie' domain names for individuals.

Therefore, from Wednesday, October 31, individuals will be able register their personal domains, as long at they can prove a claim to the domain name and have a 'substantive connection to the island of Ireland'.

Therefore, a document such as a driving licence or utility bill will have to be produced when making a claim.

It is important to note that the name on the document supplied must exactly match the domain name, so nicknames will not be allowed.

The announcement means that sole traders, professionals, politicians, and trademark holders who have not registered their '.ie' internet addresses have exactly seven weeks in which to rectify the situation.
