IE Internet estimates that the amount of spam sent to Irish e-mail users has gone up by over 10% since the start of this year, with 53% of mail spam in January.

The US and France were the top sources of May's spam, though IE Internet said it was unlikely the spammers were based in France.

The rate of viruses for May has dropped slightly since April to just over 5%, though new viruses are still being written IE Internet warned.

The statistics are based on over 35,000 business email users.
