The Construction Industry Federation has called for VAT rebates for first-time home buyers.
In its pre-Budget submission, the CIF calls for first-time buyers to be allowed to claim a VAT rebate in respect of VAT paid by them on the purchase price of their new home. VAT on the sale price of a new house is currently 13.5%.
The group says the rebate would amount to €35,405 on the price of an average house, which is currently €297,662.
