Irish Broadband unveils new WiMAX plan

Irish Broadband has today announced a major initiative for the immediate rollout of WiMAX broadband networks to 14 of Ireland's major urban centres. The initiative is in association with Intel.

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) is a new standard for providing broadband wireless access around the world. Along with speed, the major benefit of WiMAX is that it brings broadband access to places where DSL and cable do not reach.

WiMAX is highly cost efficient and can be used to connect networks together, connect businesses and hotspots to the high-speed Internet.

Irish Broadband have launched WiMAX broadband services in Athlone, Arklow, Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Ennis, Galway, Kilkenny, Killaloe, Letterkenny, Limerick, Newbridge, Portlaoise and Wexford.

'This development will enable Irish Broadband to expand its network coverage area as well as further enhance its ability to provide services such as VoIP, video broadband and other IP data and voice services', commented Paul Doody, Irish Broadband's Managing Director.
