New York Times Company to axe 190 jobs

The New York Times Company today announced plans to cut 190 jobs, comprising nearly 2% of its workforce, with the bulk of layoffs coming from the New York Times newspaper.

Roughly two-thirds of the total reduction will occur at the Times, with fewer than two dozen of that number coming from newspaper's newsroom, where a voluntary reduction programme will be in effect, the company said in a statement.

The other job losses will be felt at the New England Media Group, which includes The Boston Globe.

The New York Times Company stable includes The New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, The Boston Globe, 16 other newspapers, eight network-affiliated television stations, two New York City radio stations and more than 40 websites.
