Alan Reynolds says he is hoping to bring his experience to the fore after Shelbourne appointed him as assistant manager.

The former Waterford boss will join Ian Morris' coaching staff as they look to return to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division at the first attempt, while also retaining his position as an assistant coach on the Republic of Ireland Under-21 coaching team.

Shelbourne's first season back in the top flight ended in relegation after a collapse in form towards the conclusion of the campaign saw them finish ninth.

The Dublin side then fell to a play-off defeat to Longford Town, while their exit in the Extra.ie FAI Cup quarter-finals followed a defeat to an Athlone Town side which was beaten 11-0 by Dundalk in this weekend's semi-final.

With Shels back in the First Division next season, Reynolds who won the Premier Division with the club as a player in 2006, told shelbournefc.ie that he is "looking to bring his experience to the table".

"I'll be going in to see how I can improve the players and make sure they’re of required standard for the boss, in Ian, so we can bounce back and help as much as I can," he said.

"Our relationship will be good. Through the conversations we’ve had, we both want the same thing, we want to play the right way and excite the fans.

"I’m here to help him and when I’ve had assistants myself, I’ve known what I’ve wanted from them so I’ll be bringing that to the table.

"You can see it’s building here. Shelbourne has had tough times over the years and it’s a setback this year but we’ve bounced back before and I’ve no doubt we’ll do it again."
