Journalist and broadcaster Alison Comyn will stand for election for Fianna Fáil in the Louth constituency at the next general election.

The Drogheda woman had been added to the party ticket in Louth and will stand alongside Senator Erin McGreehan, who earlier this month was nominated by the local Fianna Fáil organisation to stand.

Ms Comyn was the former anchor news presenter with UTV Ireland and also presented news programmes on the Sky channel.

She was also a reporter with the Drogheda Independent.

In a statement, Fianna Fáil said that Ms Comyn "has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public service and community throughout her career and will make an excellent addition to the Louth Fianna Fáil ticket".

Ms Comyn's addition to the Fianna Fáil ticket comes as another high profile broadcaster, Gráinne Seoige, seeks a party nomination to stand in Galway West.

Ms Seoige, along with seven others, has received the necessary support from local Fianna Fáil members to go before the upcoming selection convention in the five-seater constituency.
