Two Independent TDs have applied to register a new political party.
Michael Collins, who represents Cork South-West, will be the party leader and Limerick TD Richard O'Donoghue will be general secretary.
The new entity will be called the Independent Ireland Party.
The Registrar of Political Parties has given notice of his intention to approve the application to register the party.
It means the Independent Ireland Party can run candidates in the local and European elections and for the Dáil.
The decision is made by the chief executive of the the Electorial Commission Art O'Leary who is the Registrar of Political Parties.
The decision will become effective after a 21-day period.
If registered it will be Ireland's 27th party.
