The Ceann Comhairle has refused permission for the Oireachtas Committee on Health to consider the next stage of the abortion legislation during the Dáil recess.
The second stage of the bill was passed by an overwhelming majority in the Dáil yesterday.
This morning, the committee discussed a request from Minister for Health Simon Harris that it meet to consider amendments to the abortion legislation next week.
Following that discussion, members of the committee wrote to Seán Ó Fearghaíl seeking to shorten the deadline for amendments at committee stage.
The members requested that amendments be submitted up to this Monday or Tuesday.
However, Mr Ó Fearghaíl has said it can not be facilitated under the standing orders of the Oireachtas.
The committee will now meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the following week.
