A Covid-19 testing centre will open in Dundalk, Co Louth due to an increasing number of cases in the area in recent weeks.
The Department of Public Health North East has said this evening that there has been a number of small workplace outbreaks, family clusters and some unrelated cases indicating a degree of community transmission.
Director of Public Health North East Dr Augustine Pereira said there is particular concern around the Delta variant.
"There has been a concerning increase in the detection of the Delta variant in Ireland and the department is also investigating probable variants of concern of the delta clade in the county" he said.
Dr Pereira is encouraging the people of Dundalk, and especially anyone who is below the age of 40 who wouldn't have had a vaccination yet to avail of the free testing service.
The pop-up test centre at the Marshes Shopping Centre Dundalk is open to members of the public of any age and will remain open until Sunday.
