Revenue officers have seized 1.2 million cigarettes in Co Offaly.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out yesterday.

Revenue officers, with the support of the gardaí, found the illicit cigarettes, branded 'Platinum' and ‘Top Gun’, in a business premises.

They have an estimated value of over €1.1m, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €890,000.

Revenue said investigations are ongoing.

The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
