Longford Circuit Court has heard that a trial will be required for two members of An Garda Síochána charged with a number of corruption-linked offences in the Midlands.

Garda Brian Carroll, aged 42, with an address at Ballinaboy, Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, is charged with disclosing confidential information in September 2021, which was obtained in the course of his duties.

He is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice where it is alleged he damaged his mobile phone prior to the lawful search of his home in March 2022.

Sergeant James Muldowney with an address at Greenville, Caltra, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, is charged with stealing cash at a property in Longford in September 2021.

He is also charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice during an incident in Roscommon town in January 2024.

Both members are attached to the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Garda Division.

The case was listed for arraignment today.

Niall Flynn BL, acting for both men, told the court today that matters could not proceed as there was further disclosure required.

However, he added that irrespective of disclosure, a trial would be needed.

Prosecuting on behalf of the State, Stephen Faulkner said when the matter goes to trial, it will take approximately three weeks.

Judge Kenneth Connolly remanded both men on continuing bail and the case is back before the court in July.
