One of Ireland's youngest priests has been ordained Bishop of Achonry.
The diocese includes parishes in Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
Born in Carlow, 50-year old Fr Paul Dempsey grew up in Co Kildare, where he was educated by the Christian Brothers.
In 1989, he began his studies for the priesthood and was ordained in 1997.
He was Parish Priest of Newbridge and Administrator of Caragh and Prosperous Parishes for the past six years.
On 27 January 2020, he was appointed Bishop of Achonry by Pope Francis.
Bishop Dempsey’s ordination, which took place yesterday, could not be attended by two of his sisters due to Covid-19 restrictions.
His brother and close relations and friends were in attendance.
