A Dublin man is due to go on trial in New York in November charged with assaulting a 21-year-old man from Co Longford, who died after being punched outside a pub in Queens last year.

Steven O'Brien, with an address at 42nd Street, Queens, New York appeared in court today and was given a trial date of November 14th.

Danny McGee, who was from Drumlish, Co Longford, was found lying unresponsive on the ground outside the Gaslight Bar in Queens, New York shortly before 4am on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd 2018.

The 21-year-old was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead.

The cause of his death was determined to be a blunt impact injury to the head.

Prosecutors say Steven O'Brien punched Mr McGee once to the side of the head after the two men became engaged in a verbal row.

Mr O'Brien's attorney Matthew Gartenberg told RTÉ News: "We are expecting to go to trial and it should be reinforced that Mr O'Brien is presumed innocent until proven guilty."
