Bloomsday celebrations take place around Dublin

Bloomsday events are taking place around Dublin to celebrate James Joyce's 'Ulysses'.

The day commemorates Thursday, 16 June 1904, the day immortalised in Joyce's 1922 novel Ulysses. The novel follows the life and thoughts of Leopold Bloom as well as a host of other characters, real and fictional - from 8am through to the early hours of the following morning.

Readings, theatrical and musical performances will take place, while many fans of the book will visit places referenced in the novel, dress up in Edwardian clothes or even eat the food depicted in the book.

Among the events taking place in Dublin will be a reenactment of scenes from the book at Glasnevin Cemetery, while readings and songs will take place in Meeting House Square.

To mark Bloomsday 2023, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Ireland's global network of Embassies and Consulates have collaborated with Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) and dozens of partners worldwide to create a new short film 'Yes I Will Yes'.
