Details of National Concert Hall redevelopment unveiled

Details have been unveiled of the redevelopment of the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The project is described as the largest ever redevelopment for a national cultural institution.

The initial proposed cost of the project was €78m in 2018. However, that was based on an early proposal and the value has now increased.

The Government has said the budget will be "be elaborated and refined as the process proceeds".

Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Minister for Arts Catherine Martin and Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe were at the NCH this morning for the announcement.

The project will see the restoration and redevelopment of the building at the Earlsfort Terrace site, expand the stage and seating capacity, and will restore and repurpose large parts of the site to provide new recital and rehearsal spaces.

There will also be new and restored public areas and a new centre for learning and participation.

The Taoiseach said the project felt "momentous" and is a flagship one under the National Development Plan.

Minister Catherine Martin said the project will futureproof the concert hall and allow it to engage greater and more diverse audiences.
