An Garda Síochána are expected to introduce a number of new initiatives to combat anti-social behaviour in Dublin city centre to ensure that people feel safe in the city as Covid-19 restrictions relax further and nightlife returns.

The Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys said that she has met with senior gardaí, Dublin business owners and local representatives to discuss recent anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

She said that a high visibility initiative is set to be launched to police public disorder and anti-social behaviour in Dublin city centre in collaboration with local communities.

"We want people to feel safe in Dublin, whether they live in Dublin, own a business in Dublin or want to visit our capital city and enjoy it," the minister said.

Ms Humphreys said that during the Covid-19 pandemic there were fewer people around the city centre and some people felt unsafe.

She said while gardaí have done a lot "they are going to try to do more".
