A man in his 40s has died and two other people were seriously injured following an assault at a house in Blanchardstown in Dublin.

Gardaí were called to the scene in the Ashfield Park estate in the Huntstown area at around 4pm where they found three people with injuries, believed to be stab wounds.

The man was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

A second man and a woman, both in their 20s, were taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries.

It is understood a young child was in the house at the time of the assault, but was not injured in the incident.

It is believed the incident was domestic, that the family involved were originally from eastern Europe, and had moved to the area in recent times.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on the body of the man.

It will determine the course of the investigation, but gardaí said they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
