Man charged with dangerous driving after triple fatal Co Louth crash

A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of three people in a crash in Co Louth over the weekend.

Keith Lennon, with an address at Forest Park, Dromintee, south Armagh, was arrested yesterday and appeared before Dundalk District Court this morning.

He is also charged with failing to report the crash.

The two-car collision happened at around 2.15am on Saturday on the N1 northbound at Carrickarnan, south of Junction 20 on the main Dublin to Belfast road.

Mary Faxton, 88, and 58-year-old Kevin Faxton from Bessbrook in Newry who were travelling in a car together were killed.

Bryan Magill, 25, who was a passenger in the second car was also killed.

Mr Lennon stayed silent during this morning's brief court appearance.

Garda Ronan Costello of Dundalk Garda Station said the accused was charged at 1am today and made no reply to the charges.

Solicitor for the accused Amy McComiskey made an application for bail, however gardaí objected on a number of grounds due to the seriousness of the charges.

Judge Deirdre Gearty refused bail and remanded the accused in custody to Cloverhill Prison.

He is due back before the court via video link on Thursday 5 March.
