One of the boys accused of the murder of Ana Kriégel a year ago told gardaí after her body was found that he was not happy at being involved in the incident.

Two 14-year-olds deny murdering the schoolgirl in a derelict house in Lucan on 14 May last year, and one also denies aggravated sexual assault.

Detective Garda Gabriel Newton called with a colleague to the home of the second accused boy in the case on the evening of 17 May, 2018.

At that stage, the body of Ana Kriégel had been found and a murder investigation had begun.

Gda Newton told the court Boy B expressed unhappiness that he was being involved in the incident.

She said Boy B told them that the other accused boy wanted to tell Ana that he was not interested in her in the park on 14 May, because he did not want to be seen with her.

Asked what Ana had been wearing, Garda Newton said Boy B told them she had been wearing what he described as "a slutty top" as well as a black hoodie, bottoms and high shoes. He said Ana had shown him a picture of her tied up with tape in a friend's house.

Boy B said he had left Ana with Boy A as he felt they needed privacy and went to get a drink of water at the ranger's station. He saw Ana coming back - he said she looked sad and did not answer him.

He said he did not know Boy A had been attacked until the following day, when Boy A and his mother called to his house. Boy B told gardaí he thought maybe Ana had beaten up Boy A.

He said the weather was not very nice on the day he had been in the park with Ana. He said it was cold, Mr Whippy was not in the playground and there were not many people around.

The court heard Boy B also told gardaí that two girls had come to him the previous week to tell him that Ana had a crush on Boy A and he was to tell Boy A that.
