Two men have been before Dublin District Court charged with stalking a former senior politician.
37-year-old Paul Nolan of Mount Eagle Square in Leopardstown and 52-year-old Leslie Fagan of Kildare Park in Crumlin are each charged with stalking the man on Parnell Street in Dublin in September last year.
The victim cannot be identified by law unless he consents, in court, to being identified. He was not present in court today.
Garda Mícheál Mac Suibhne told the court both men were arrested today and made no reply when charged.
He told the court that it was alleged that the men were cycling on Parnell Street on 29 September last year when they observed the former politician walking on the street.
He said it was alleged they followed him and shouted verbal abuse in an intimidating manner to the extent that the man feared it would escalate to violence.
It is also alleged they recorded him on their mobile phones and uploaded the video to social media where it received a substantial number of views.
Defence solicitor Tony Collier applied for bail for each of the men. Garda Mac Suibhne said gardaí were not objecting to bail on strict conditions.
Judge Michele Finan granted bail for Mr Nolan and Mr Fagan on their own bond of €200 each.
They are also subject to other conditions including not having contact in any way with the alleged victim in the case.
They must also sign on at a local garda station twice a week, stay out of Dublin 1 and Dublin 2 and they must not post on social media in relation to this case.
Mr Collier applied for legal aid on behalf of each of the men.
Judge Finan warned the men that bail would be revoked if there was the "slightest hint" of a breach of the bail conditions.
The judge was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that the matter be dealt with in the district court and she agreed to accept jurisdiction.
The men will be back before the court on 24 July.
