Pilot large events for music and sports could be organised this summer, according to the Minister for Arts.

In a statement, Catherine Martin outlined the reopening plan for the artistic sectors.

From 10 May, the minister said "small organised cultural events" can take place outdoors, subject to a maximum of 15 people.

She said this would go hand in hand with the upgrading of outdoor facilities recently announced by her department.

From the same date, galleries, museums and other cultural attractions may reopen.

Ms Martin said the Government is looking at the safe reopening of cinemas and theatres in June.

She said the Cabinet agreed that proposals could be prepared on the holding of a limited number of pilot "large events" for sport and music, both indoor and outdoor.

The minister said other European countries have taken interesting approaches to this, and the details will be firmed up in the coming weeks.

Ms Martin added: "I also informed colleagues today that my Department is working on proposals for a phased approach to reopening small music venues (seated only), subject to health advice.

"I recently established the Return to Live Entertainment Working Group who will submit their guidelines for the Live Entertainment sector next week."
