New online forms will be made available in coming weeks for people to apply for Digital Covid Certificates.

The Department of Health made the announcement in response to continuing complaints from members of the public who cannot get through to the Helpline.

Many people complained of being left on hold for hours and of being cut off before their call is answered.

The department has previously admitted it can only deal with around 7% of the tens of thousands of calls it receives.

The helpline is for those who have a problem with their Digital Covid Certificate or those who have recovered from Covid and who want a Recovery Certificate.

An online portal was recently opened to obtain a Recovery Certificate without going through the helpline.

In a statement, the department said it is constantly trying to improve the service.

"We will also launch additional online forms and automation in the coming weeks to make this service more accessible for the public."
