A search is under way after around seven men were seen leaving a truck which arrived at Rosslare Port earlier today.

Gardaí are investigating possible immigration offences after the sighting just before 11am this morning in Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow.

The truck was making a delivery there when around seven men were observed alighting from the vehicle.

The truck is currently being detained for a technical examination.

Gardaí have said this is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.

Eyewitness Brigid Murphy said she was out walking with her dog and two children at the time of the incident.

She described walking by the industrial estate when several men jumped over a fence and into their path.

"Two guys jumped over and we stood back and got a fright and then another four guys jumped over and they ran in the direction down towards Newcastle hospital," she said.

She added: "They looked really scared and they were changing T-shirt's and running along so yes we just got a bit of a fright they jumped on top of us".

She and other locals described lots of garda activity in the area following the incident, including a helicopter flying over the area and a number of garda vehicles around searching nearby.
