An Irish government spokesperson has confirmed that the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will meet with the US Vice President on Tuesday.
The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Dublin next Friday but the visit to Ireland by Mr Pence has been brought forward.
It was announced last night that Mr Pence would travel to Poland this weekend in place of US President Donald Trump.
Mr Trump cancelled his trip so he could stay in the US to monitor Hurricane Dorian which is threatening to hit Florida in the coming days.
Because US Vice President Mike Pence will now be in Europe earlier than expected, plans are being made for his arrival in Shannon Airport on Monday evening.
This would be followed by meetings in Dublin on Tuesday with President Higgins, the Taoiseach and the US Ambassador to Ireland Edward Crawford.
Vice President Pence is expected to return to County Clare on Tuesday evening and visit Doonbeg where he has family connections.
He'll then leave Ireland on Wednesday morning.
It's believed Vice President Pence may stay at the Trump Golf Resort in Doonbeg during his time in Ireland but this has not been confirmed by the White House which says the details of the trip are still being finalised.
