A murder investigation is under way in Dún Laoghaire in Dublin after a 65-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her home.
Jane Braidwood was attacked at around 5pm yesterday.
A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene is due before Dun Laoghaire District Court tomorrow morning charged with the murder of his mother.
Gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else at present.
The house where the woman was fatally injured has been sealed off for a forensic examination.
Gardaí were called to Clarinda Park East in Dún Laoghaire at around 5.20pm yesterday and found the mother-of-three had been stabbed a number of times in the kitchen of her home.
She was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital but pronounced dead there a short time later.
The woman's daughter is believed to have witnessed the attack and ran out to the street to raise the alarm.
A neighbour heard the screams but was attacked and injured when he tried to intervene and was also taken to hospital.
A knife, believed to have been the weapon used, has been recovered.
