Two men in their early 20s have been charged in connection with the death of Ciaran O'Connell, who died following an assault at a house party on St Patrick's night.

The men were arrested early this morning at their homes in Mullagh, Co Cavan and Kells, Co Meath.

They are both being detained in Bailieborough Garda Station.

Mr O'Connell, 22, had gone to the party at a rented house in his home village of Mullagh on 17 March and was seriously injured in an incident in the early hours of the following morning.

Mr O'Connell was rushed to Cavan General Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he died on Wednesday.
