Iris Robinson, the wife of the Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson, is to receive damages for the publication of photos taken while she was undergoing treatment for depression.

The former DUP MP has accepted an undisclosed sum and legal costs to settle a breach of privacy case against the Sunday World.

Mrs Robinson left politics in December 2009, after it emerged that she had been having an affair and had attempted suicide.

She issued a writ for breach of confidence/misuse of private information, harassment and breach of her rights, after the Sunday World published articles and photos of her in London in April 2010.

Her lawyer said she had accepted the newspaper's offer to pay "substantial damages".
