US president Barack Obama has said that during his visit to Ireland it was inspiring to see how people were so rapidly reorienting how they thought about those who were once enemies.
Speaking at a joint news conference in London with British Prime Minister, David Cameron, the US President said Queen Elizabeth's visit to Ireland had an enormous effect on Ireland and was a source of hope.
Comparing the Northern Irish peace process with current negotiations on the Middle East he added, ‘people need to look inward to find what is in their long-term interest’.
Mr Cameron said that if you look at what happened in Northern Ireland you appreciate what has to happen with the peace process in the Middle East.
Mr Obama is on the second day of a three-day state visit to Britain.
Meanwhile, more than 11,000 articles were published in over 3,500 publications in 110 countries in the 48 hours surrounding US President Barack Obama's visit to Ireland.
The articles mentioned both Mr Obama and Ireland.
Research by O'Leary Analytics found that over 12,000 tweets were published in Ireland mentioning Barack Obama.
More than 50,000 tweets were published globally in relation to his visit to Ireland.
President Obama’s ancestral home of Moneygall, Co Offaly, appeared in almost 5,000 articles and 10,000 tweets around the world in 48 hours.
