The Chief Justice has met with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to discuss the impact of tax changes on judges' pensions.
The matter was raised during a courtesy visit last Thursday.
It is feared that alterations to judges' taxes could become a constitutional issue where judges remuneration is reduced while in office.
Across the board in the public sector until 2005 individuals who had built up pension funds were able to avail of significant tax relief.
In some cases this has led to some executives building up pension funds worth tens of millions.
To avoid abuse the threshold for tax relief was capped in the most recent budget at €2.3m.
High earning individuals including public servants, politicians, hospital consultants and the judiciary will face a tax bill on any surplus in their fund on the day that they retire payable within three months.
