Quinn Insurance is expected to announce plans to cut its workforce in the coming days.

Administrators running the insurer have decided against seeking to reopen certain loss-making parts of its UK business, which were suspended by Financial Regulator Matthew Elderfield last month.

Workers at Quinn Insurance have called for action to save the 1,000 jobs they say are at risk.

Employees were warned yesterday by the administrators in charge of the business that some of the 2,400-strong workforce were likely to be let go.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Brian Storey, a member of the employees' committee in Blanchardstown, said the effect of restricting the UK business would be catastrophic for staff.

The Financial Regulator's office has reiterated that it will continue to review business proposals put to it for review by the administrators.
