A 23-year-old man has been charged with the murder of of Francis Heneghan in Kiltimagh.
Fintan McKenna of Woodlands, Balla, Co Mayo was charged with the murder of 24-year-old Mr Heneghan on Wednesday morning.
At a special sitting of the District in Castlebar, Sergeant Gary Walsh gave evidence of arresting Mr McKenna at Swinford Garda Station at 5.50pm yesterday and charging him with murder.
Superintendant Ronan Galligan asked that he be remanded in custody until Friday.
The application was not opposed by the defendant's solicitor and Judge Gerard Furlong remanded Mr McKenna in custody.
Mr McKenna will appear before the District Court at Harristown on Friday.
