A controversial US doctor who provided late term abortions has been shot dead.
A man armed with a handgun shot 67-year-old George Tiller while he attended his church in Wichita, Kansas, this afternoon.
The gunman then fled the scene.
Dr Tiller and his clinic had previously been targetted by anti-abortion campaigners.
He had been wounded in a gun attack by an assailant in 1993.
Wichita police captain Brent Allred said Dr Tiller was shot by a white male.
